Ohio Representatives
In May 2024, Election Integrity activists in Ohio provided testimony to the Homeland Security Committee in support of House Bill 472 "Ohio Votes Count Act" This proposed bill was broad in scope and addressed numerous issues such as:
-
Voter registration data validation
-
Auditing voter registration databases
-
Citizenship verification
-
Iinclude cybersecurity experts on the Board of Voting Machine Examiners (BVME)
-
Update the outdated (2001) election system security standards
-
Change Ohio law to give counties the option to replace voting machines with paper ballots
The bill never made it out of committee, primarily because the majority of the committee members felt that these steps were not really necessary because Ohio's election system was already safe and secure and in fact led the nation as the "Gold Standard" in administering elections. The proposal to amend the Ohio Revised Code, spearheaded by CCVO, became a lightening rod issue since it threatened to give a voice to the voters in whether or not to continue using voting machines.
